East meets West with Holistic Integrated Health and Acupuncture

Meet Catherine Kurosu MD, LAc

I first met Dr. Catherine Kurosu on the island of Guam in 1998-2000 and worked alongside her there and again on the island of Oahu in Hawaii in the care of mothers during pregnancy and childbirth. She is originally from Canada, graduated from the Toronto University of Medicine in 1990 and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine.

Since then Dr. Kurosu has expanded her knowledge of medicine to the science of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, completing a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine and graduating from the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture in Honolulu in 2015, bringing with her all of her immense knowledge and practice of Western Medicine. This has given her a very unique perspective on health and healing as she mentions on her website and she has seen the value of how these two different approaches complement each other to bring about optimum results for the patient.

“Integrative Medicine describes a style of practice that incorporates the best of conventional and alternative medical systems to achieve the finest result possible for each patient.”

Now located in a beautiful professional clinical office in Kailua, Dr. Kurosu offers services as a Primary Care Provider and Acupuncturist, as well as supplying herbs and supplements.

The ambiance of her office and treatment rooms is extremely tranquil and relaxing, creating an environment conducive to healing.

Having worked with Dr. Kurosu on a professional level for many years, I can attest to her calm, compassionate professionalism and her ongoing quest for knowledge. As her patient, I received expert care in the field of acupuncture after sustaining a debilitating sports injury and her treatment definitely helped me on my pathway to recovery.

I highly recommend Dr. Catherine Kurosu  and we are truly blessed to have such a talented and skilled healthcare provider in Hawaii, with such an abundance of knowledge of both the western and eastern schools of thinking when it comes to our health and wellness.

Keeping the North Shore beautiful

Ringing in the New Year, there is much to celebrate when we live in the quaint seaside towns of the North Shore of Oahu. This is especially true when we have a fabulous and talented esthetician  available to provide top notch services to the residents, travelers and frequent visitors to our tropical surfing and ocean paradise.

Meet Sarah Matthews, owner of Hoku Hale, a gem of a boutique-style beauty salon and spa, located at the Ka'ala Healing Arts Building in Waialua. The first time I went there, I was impressed by the tranquil ambiance she has created to make the experience relaxing and comfortable.

Sarah found her inspiration to become an esthetician after moving to the islands in 2007. She was looking for an inspired calling in which she could fulfill her desire to help people, and is achieving this dream by helping people feel great about themselves by promoting beauty inside and out.
Sarah approaches her work with professionalism and continues to pursue ongoing education to bring her clients a wealth of product knowledge and up to date skills. She says, " I want to continue to pursue my passion to improve internal and external beauty one person at a time."

Sarah is a Licensed Esthetician and an Xtreme Lashes Certified Stylist.

Mermaids, Angels and Godesses

I'd like to introduce you to my lovely, gifted and talented friend: Maria Cristina Guerriero

Maria is a self taught artist who views creativity as part of her spiritual path. Making art is a healing tool which grounds her, allowing her to process her emotions and do release work. She works with mixed media including tile mosaics, water colors, collage, ink drawings and acrylic paintings. Her pieces focus on vibrant color play with elements of nature and mystical images and symbols.

She is inspired by folk, visionary and street art. She believes that she is being guided to share her art and help others to imagine higher possibilities and to connect with the divine.

Maria also uses art therapeutically in her work as a psychiatric nurse with both clients and student nurses. This is usually coupled with a guided meditation and then a free form artistic expression that is shared in a group. She is an advanced practice nurse who teaches complementary and alternative medicine and mental health at the University of Hawaii.

Always a free spirit, she left New Jersey at age 22 to travel to over 40 countries to experience culture, music, self-realization and adventure. Her journeys exposed her to various art styles and alternative beliefs and perspectives that influence her work. She was blessed to come and live on the island of Oahu, Hawaii in 2001 as a travel nurse. Here her connection to nature and the ocean has helped her to find balance, open her heart and cultivate a beautiful relationship with spirit. Creating her art is a meditative process and comes intuitively and easily.
